Cuthona ornata Baba, 1937

Maximum size: 3 mm.
Identification:
The
body and rhinophores of this species are translucent orange with
the distal half of
the rhinophores becoming pale yellow. The cerata are smooth and
translucent, revealing the blue digestive gland within, and are tipped
with white. The foot corners are angular and less rounded
than in most Cuthona spp.
Natural history:
Cuthona ornata is
a
moderately rare species that appears to have a highly patchy
distribution. All animals came from three dives in Halimeda kanaloana beds with a
depth range of 12-30 m (40-98 ft).
Distribution:
Maui: widely distributed in the Indo-Pacific.
Taxonomic notes:
First
recorded in Hawaii from Makena, Maui by PF
on July
14, 1995. The name means ornate.
