Cuthona sp. #5
Maximum size: 5 mm.
Identification:
These
aeolids
have a translucent-white body and cerata that gradually
become opaque-white distally. There is a variably
developed, red-orange
band just below the small, white tip. The
rhinophores and cephalic tentacles are white with basal orange bands.
Natural history:
Cuthona sp.
#5 is a rare
species found in moderately exposed to highly exposed rocky locations
at about 6-14 m (20-45 ft). It is sexually mature at 4 mm and
lays a
white egg mass.
Distribution:
Maui and Oahu.
