Eulimella secunda (Pilsbry, 1918)

Maximum size: 4 mm shell
length (Kay, 1979).
Identification:
The
shell
of this species is slender with a deeper suture than the
shell of Eulimella quinta.
Occasional shells have a disproportionately inflated ultimate whorl
similar to the shell illustrated in Kay (1979).
Natural history:
Shells
of Eulimella secunda
are moderately rare in beach drift.
Distribution:
Maui and Oahu.
Taxonomic notes: Kay, 1979 lists this species (as Odostomia seconda) as a synonym of Nesiodostomia montforti Corgan, 1972. However, Severns, 2011 illustrates the latter species with a shell that is probably an Odostomia cf. oxia (although Corgan proposed the name N. montforti as a replacement for Odostomia secunda). The shell labelled Nesiodostomia montforti in Kay, 1979 is probably a worm specimen of Eulimella secunda although that isn't completely certain due to wear.
