Maui shell

|
Koloonella(?) hawaiiensis Kay, 1979

Maximum size: 1.3 mm.
Identification:
This
is a very small, smooth species with an angled suture.
Natural history:
We've
only found a few shells in sand samples from Maui and Midway. According to Kay (1979)
shells are rare in sand samples from 3-60 m (10-197 ft).
Distribution:
Maui, Oahu and Midway.
Taxonomic notes: This species is listed as Eulimella hawaiiensis in Severns, 2011. However, considering the diferences in form and size between this species and other species of Eulimella, we've decided to tentatively retain Kay's usage pending further work.
