Okenia sp. #2

Maximum size: 4 mm.
Identification:
This is a cream, spiculate animal decorated with lemon-yellow spots.
There are long slender processes on the notum and the rhinophores have
only four or five cup-shaped lamellae on their posterior faces. The
processes and rhinophores are frosted with white and the bases of the
rhinophores and branchia are stained with wine red.
Natural history:
Okenia sp. #2 is a
moderately rare species found in Halimeda
kanaloana beds at depths over 10 m (33 ft).
Distribution:
Maui and Midway.
Taxonomic notes:
First recorded in Hawaii from Midway Atoll by Terry Gosliner and PF in
June, 1993.
