Tiberia sp. #2

Maximum size: 5.5 mm shell
length.
Identification:
The shell of this species is conical and thin with moderately inflated
whorls. It is superficially somewhat similar to Pyramidella
dolabrata but much smaller in both overall dimensions and
protoconch. There is usually a single irregular brown spiral line on
the periphery. The animal is cream.
Natural history:
Shells of Tiberia sp. #2 are rare in subtidal sand
samples. Live animals are occasionally found in sand samples from Halimeda kanaloana beds taken at
depths of around 10-20 m (33-66 ft).
Distribution:
Maui.
Taxonomic notes:
Perhaps, this species represents the "real" Tiberia balteatus (A. Adams, 1854)?
